Do you ever think eating healthy is expensive? Do you flip through cookbooks and get intimidated by the list of ingredients? My answer is yes to both of these questions, that is why I love the cookbook Supermarket Healthy by Food Network’s Melissa d’Arabian. She provides tips on eating healthy without breaking the bank and recipes with easy to find indigents.
Overview: The Book begins with an overview that introduces key components of the book, goes over some Hot-Button issues like eating organic and buying local, and there is a nice list of healthy boosting ingredients to stock your panty. The rest of the book is divided into 11 chapters taking up from breakfast to dessert. Each section has 10 – 14 recipes and tips on shopping, cooking and entertaining. Also through the book you will see recipe blueprints which shows you a break down of a recipe steps and you choose the indigents. Every recipe in finished off with nutritional information.
Likes: My two favorite parts of the book are the list of healthy pantry must-haves and the blueprints. My pantry needs to be restocked and d’Arabian provides a great list of healthy staple ingredients. My household can be a little picky when it comes to eating so I often stray from recipes and do my own thing. This is why I love the blueprints, they provide basic steps and you provide the ingredients!
Dislikes: I like to see a photo of what my meal should look like when I’m done. Not every recipe has a photo. I would love for there to be even a little photo with each recipe. At first glance I felt like the ingredient list seemed long and intimidating but once I dove in I discovered I had many of the items and they were mostly seasonings. Also, I wanted more blueprints!
Overall I like this cookbook and I am excited to try more recipes from Supermarket Healthy. Below are my Crispy Beef Tacos!
I give this book a 4 out of 5!
