Even tough my baby’s crib has thicker bottom rail I was set on making her a pretty ruffled crib skirt. I love it! It is great for hiding extra packs of diapers and wipes under the crib. Here is my tutorial for a DIY ruffled crib skirt.
- 2 yards white fabric
- 4 yards coral fabric
- fabric marker
- matching thread
- basic sewing supplies
- ruffler foot
Step 1: Measure your crib or mattress and the distance from the bottom of the mattress to the floor. Cut your center panel that will go under the mattress and sides that will hang down.
Step 2: Cut strips for ruffles. I cut mine about 2.5 times as long as each panel (130″ for the front and 70″ for the sides). I wanted 4 layers so I cut them 4 inches wide so there would be enough to overlap as they hang down.
Step 3: Hem the bottom of each strip.
Step 4: Ruffle each strip using a ruffler foot. See my tutorial on using a ruffler foot here.
Step 6: Sew along the top of each ruffle.
Step 7: When your panels are complete pin your front panel to the center white fabric, right sides facing each other to hide your raw edges. Sew just along your ruffle seam. Repeat for the side panels.
Now you have a beautiful crib skirt for your nursery!
