Etching Drinkware with Silhouette Stencils

Etching Glass with Silhette made stencils-11 Etching was one of the first things I did when I got my Silhouette Cameo. I etched Christmas ornaments and family tree candle holders. Etching adds classy fun flare to anything glass.

1. Cut out your design using vinyl or magic mount from the Dollar Tree (clear adhesive contact paper). I chose the magic mount because I hate to waste my vinyl. 3. Slowly remove transfer paper. Then double check that your design is down (air bubbles are oaky as long as all your edges around where you will be etching is pressed down). I use my silhouette hook to smooth down detailed areas. Etching Glass with Silhette made stencils-3

4. Tape off areas that are not to be etched… I use a lot of tape because I tend to get the cream on my gloves and then touch the glass again. Etching Glass with Silhette made stencils-4

5. Put on some gloves and use a brush to apply the etching cream. Etching Glass with Silhette made stencils-5

6. Apply a generous amount of cream an let sit for a minute. Use your brush to move the cream around more and let sit for another minute. Etching Glass with Silhette made stencils-6

7. Scrape the cream off and put back in jar… yes you can reuse it! Etching Glass with Silhette made stencils-7

8. Rinse the cream off…don’t worry if you can’t really see the design yet, the magic mount is basically the same color as etched glass and water can make you design look clear.  Peel away tape and stencil and dry. Etching Glass with Silhette made stencils-8 Etching Glass with Silhette made stencils-9 Etching Glass with Silhette made stencils-10 Etching Glass with Silhette made stencils-12 Etching Glass with Silhette made stencils-13 Etching Glass with Silhette made stencils-14
