When I walk into Ali’s nursery I just beam with joy and excitement! I just love how it all came together. I always thought I would do a jungle animal themed nursery because I love animals so much and had a jungle themed bedroom growing up but as I neared the day in which we would find out the sex of the baby I woke up one morning and just changed my mind. I wanted to do something centered around classic stories but not go overly cheesy. It was at that time that I decided I was going to DIY several things in the nursery. Everyone kept asking me about it… are you not going to register for a bed set? what is it going to look like?
I excitedly started collecting ideas on Pinterest and scouring fabric sites and stores for the right items and buying vintage books. I didn’t have an exact plan drawn up, but it all just came together perfectly. Below I list where all the items can be purchased but first are photos of the nursery along with the story behind some of the personal details.
Ali’s grandpa (my dad) did this painting for us. The quilt I made (first ever). I wanted a way to incorporate the nursery rhyme fabric I bought with animals so I found this pink animal print fabric and combined them on the quilt. I will post a tutorial for the quilt and the ruffled crib skirt soon.
The display bookshelves were a big part of the plan but I did not know what size I would get or exactly where they would hang until the very end. I am so glad we decided on the longer set, making it a main feature in the nursery. Many of the books were gift from sweet family and friends, a few are vintage finds and Alice and Wonderland was mine that I dug out of my dad’s basement.
This little outfit was my coming home outfit that my mom passed along to me. I wanted a way to incorporate it without leaving it out all the time.
I designed these prints in Indesign and printed them on my printer.
The ruffled curtain I made out of a bed sheet (tutorial coming soon).
The adorable bag was a gift from a very sweet friend. It is from initials inc.
The coral and nursery rhyme minky blanket and pillow were the first things I made for the nursery. The quilt was made by Ali’s great grandmother (my grammy).
